Outdoor Dancing

No votes yet

There are several outdoor dances throughout the summer in Montreal, and I know quite a few people who make the trip fairly often. Many of these dances are hosted by the city. All that is required is a sheltered smooth dance surface (polished concrete is good), electricity, lighting, and some seating. A scenic setting and washrooms would be an added bonus.

I am posting this in the hope that someone might take this idea and run with it. I know it's too late for this year, especially if the City is involved, but we could get things in place for next year.

In Verdun, there is dancing most evenings all week. Each night features anything from Argentine Tango, to Ballroom and Latin to swing dance and line dancing. Dancing outdoors in the nice weather is so delightful. It would be nice to have something like that closer to home.

Let me know if you have any suggestions as to location, volunteers, or how to proceed.

There used to be dances twice

There used to be dances twice per week on the sparks street mall in July and August, but Im not sure they are run anymore. Didn't hear one thing about it this past year.

And I know the international folkdancing club that usually runs from the Jack Percill Centre, has open classes outside during the summer. You might want to try to contact them.

Other than that, Im not aware of any open public dances held outdoors in Ottawa.

But as always, if anyone knows of dances that are not listed, they are free to let us know :)

Tell them you saw it on 'Dance-Montreal.com'
